Popular Wedding Themes and Trends

November 28, 2016

When I create wedding slideshow DVDs for my clients, one of the big questions is about colors, themes, and styles. I want to know as much as possible about the look that is being created so that the slideshow compliments it. If you are playing the slideshow at the rehearsal dinner, it gives your family and friends a subtle hint to what the wedding day will look like. For receptions and cocktail hours, the slideshow becomes a part of the celebration seamlessly.

Here are a few style trends I noticed about this year:

1 - Neutral colors were in! Calming palette of beige, sage green, ivory, blush were complimented with black and navy blue. I have worked with more blush and navy blue than any other color this year.

2 - Centerpieces were often locally grown wild flowers mixed in with fruits and even vegetables! I came across a couple of centerpieces this year that used entirely edible fruit arrangements with herbs for greens...Mmmmm!

3 - The words "Vintage" and "Rustic-Chic" were used very often with weddings this year! This theme is very versatile. It lets you bring nature indoors. I can't imagine it going out of style. It is something I have seen over the years and expect it to be here next year too! This style lets you play with a lot of natural colors, materials and textures. Burlap and Lace were popular this year. But the options don't end there. You can get creative and use barks of trees, greens, different kinds of woods, rocks, minerals, etc. The possibilities are endless and that's what I love about it!

Wedding Trends Color Decor

4 - Wedding cakes have always been a center piece when it comes to décor. Even though wedding cakes will probably never go out of style, I saw that a lot of my clients added another dessert on the menu and made it fun. They served Italian ice of colors and flavors complimenting the wedding colors. Gooey doughnuts piped with the initials or topped with a single edible flower of the color theme were popular too.

In the last month, I have worked on a lot of slideshows for weddings coming up next year so it was fun to get a sneak peek on the upcoming trends. It is hard to predict what the themes will actually look like but from the ones I have worked with, I think metallic shades are going to be in style. The themes I worked with were dull textured metals that were not super shiny. I can see that a lot of recycled paper products are going to be involved in decorations. Once again, too soon to say anything for sure, but I am so excited to dive right into whatever is coming!

Thank you and Keep Smiling!
